Education, legal and work experience

1982 - Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics from Michigan State University

1988- Juris Doctorate from Thomas M. Cooley Law School.  Mark worked full time as analyst and lender for Fifth Third Bank in St. Johns, Mi. while attending law school during the evening.  During his financial career he handled personal and commercial legal matters involving secured transactions, complex commercial loan agreements, bank investments and bankruptcy matters.

1988 - Admission to the State Bar of Michigan.  Mark worked as a law clerk/bailiff for the Honorable Peter Deegan, 31st Circuit Court in Port Huron, Mi.  His duties included:  legal research on both criminal and civil matters before the court, writing briefs and opinions, court security and docket management.

1989- Joined the staff of Sanilac County Prosecutor, James V. Young, as an assistant prosecutor.  During his tenure at the office he represented the People of Sanilac County in civil and criminal matters in the Probate, District and Circuit courts in Sanilac, St. Clair, Huron and Tuscola counties.  His practice included matters under the Juvenile Code, Mental Health Code as well as misdemeanor and felony criminal cases.

1995 - Accepted an appointment to the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a Special Agent and reported to the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia for training.  

1996 - Transferred to Detroit Division and assigned to the Organized Crime Squad where he utilized his legal training and experience working complex organized crime investigations including the Hoffa investigation.  

2001 - Following the tragic events of 9/11, Mark became the Detroit Division’s Weapons of Mass Destruction Coordinator.  As such he was charged with leading the FBI’s Michigan response to chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive threats and incidents.  It was during this time that our country was responding to a series of Anthrax related deaths.  The “white powder” threat quickly became the focus of federal, state and local law enforcement officials as well as response partners from both the public and private sector.  

Recognizing the importance of a unified response to the threat, he coordinated with law enforcement at the federal, state and local level as well as public health, medical response, emergency management and private industry to develop and implement a response protocol that focused on human safety and the need for a thorough criminal investigation.  It is a protocol that is still used by response partners across the state.

2019 - Retired following a 25-year career with the FBI that focused on terrorism investigations both in the United States and overseas.

2021 - Joined the staff of Sanilac County Prosecutor Brenda Sanford Office as an assistant prosecutor.  In that same year he was promoted to Chief Assistant Prosecutor.  As the Chief Assistant he represents the County of Sanilac in criminal and civil matters before the District Court, Circuit Court, Family Juvenile and Probate Court.  In addition he prosecutes all phases of criminal trials, motions, appeals and hearing in the Circuit, District, and Probate Court.   Mark works closely with state, county and local law enforcement agencies collaborating on ongoing investigations, assisting with the preparation of search warrants, reviewing police reports and screening warrant requests. 

During the litigation phase, he prepares for court proceedings which include: legal research, writing and preparing briefs and motions; preparing witnesses to give testimony; negotiating case resolutions with defense attorneys; preparing and implementing case strategies and ultimately arguing cases before a judge or jury.  In his career as a prosecutor, Davidson has represented the People of the State of Michigan in hundreds of cases before courts in Sanilac, St. Clair, Lapeer, Huron and Tuscola Counties.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Mark is a lifelong community volunteer and belongs to several civic organizations.  He was a proud member of the Sandusky Community Schools Board of Education from 2009 to 2020, serving as its President for a number of years.  During his tenure he worked with fellow board members to support the efforts of its administrators, educators, support personnel and community members to foster a safe, healthy and productive learning environment for our children.  

He has been a member of the Sandusky Lions Club and Custer Lodge F & AM 393 for more than 30 years and has held leadership positions in both organizations.  In addition he is an active Red Cross Blood donor and is one pint away from donating 23 gallons.

While employed with the FBI Davidson was a certified police instructor and provided WMD and Explosive training to thousands of response partners around the State of Michigan.  He provided that training to local first responders that participated in Fire Fighter Training I & II hosted by the Sandusky Fire Department. 

During training he shared real world experiences garnered from operational and training assignments in Iraq, Nigeria, Kosovo, England and the Netherlands.  While deployed to Iraq in 2004 Mark was assigned to a Coalition Task Force that deployed to conduct site exploitation and post-blast investigations throughout the Iraqi theater.  As an investigator he led the evidence collection team during the investigation of the attempted bombing of Northwest Flight 253 on Christmas Day 2009.

In addition, he has served as a principal planner or ready responder for a variety of special events including the 2002 Winter Olympics, 3 Presidential Inaugurations, 4 Super Bowls, NCAA Men’s Basketball Midwest Regional and Final 4 Tournaments, the Ryder Cup, the PGA Championship, the Detroit Grand Prix and 15 North American International Auto Shows.

During the course of his nearly 25 year FBI career, Davidson developed a reputation for hard work, fairness, and integrity and had the opportunity to assist hundreds of federal, state, and local response partners with training and response efforts and numerous investigations regarding terrorism threats
